Betsy’s Background Information

Wendy and I got the chance to see our daughter’s picture (see previous post) today plus find out a little about her. She was named Huan Ye Mao (after the orphanage) and was born on Christmas Day, 2003, which will make her a little over one year old right now. We’ve decided to call her Betsy Ye.

She’s being well cared for according to the doctor’s report (she’s in the 50th percentile for chinese girls on all measurements) at the Maoming Welfare Institute. It’s located in the far Southern edge of china (see map with closeups), and is actually pretty close to the Vietnamese border In order to give you some idea of just how far South that is, they’re at roughly the same latitude as Cuba or Cancun.

We’re planning to fly into Hong Kong first and then on to the province capital, Guangzhou, which used to go by the name Canton. The travel dates are still fuzzy, but we’re told it will be 6-8 weeks from now and will take from 8-14 days total.
