Family Tales

Well, the trip is coming to it’s end, and none too soon. We leave the hotel tomorrow at 5AM for the Guangzhou airport. Yep, you read that right - 5 in the morning. We are *not* looking forward to the wakeup call or the plane rides for that matter. I want to be back in Memphis so bad, though, that I’m willing to do it. Living in hotels gets old, old, old after a while. Plus, we both miss everyone like crazy.

We went to the American consulate this morning to be sworn in and receive Betsy’s passport with Visa stamp for entry into the good old USA. It’s really cute, even though it is Mao Red in color. Oh well, we’ll change that to American Blue just as soon as the sleep deprivation corrects itself. We also took bunches of group pictures, which I’ll post from home as this internet connection is too slow for comfort any longer. I’ve gotten stir crazy so the smallest things have all begun to pile onto my last nerve.

Now, for the story of how Betsy became Besty. Monday during all of our struggles at the adoption agency with push French Canadians, fussy babies, and no air conditioning, Wendy and missed a typo on the adoption registration form. Betsy is now officially known as ‘Besty’ on all of her Chinese documentation. We just flat out dropped the ball on that one because we were so focused on all of our own information (since there was a lot more of it anyway). To be fair, they had flubbed Wendy’s name up in different ways on several forms already, so that was mainly what we checked for. It wasn’t until Wednesday that we even noticed it, and we just didn’t have the energy to go through that process again. Such is life. We’ve been told that it can be corrected fairly simply from Memphis.
