Just How Big is the Oilfield in ANWR

Alton Foley, an electrical engineer in Virginia, puts his AutoCAD skills to use giving us an easy to understand image of just how much of the Alaska Wildlife Refuge has been proposed for oil exploration in this post. Here’s the summary quote, but please do go read the whole thing.

If the entire Arctic National Wildlife Refuge were the size of a football field, the area being proposed for drilling would be much smaller than a Tic Tac breath mint. Estimates of the oil reserves that can be extracted from this Tic Tac range between 10 and 20 years at current consumption.

Useful information if you happen to run in circles that include misguided environmentalists, as this does seem to be one of their pet causes.
